Pakistan Forces Eliminate 33 Militants in Major Balochistan Operation

QUETTA, Pakistan — Pakistani security forces have killed 33 militants attempting to cross into the insurgency-hit southwest from neighboring Afghanistan, the military announced on Friday.

According to the military’s statement, the overnight operation was carried out in the Zhob district of Balochistan province, where troops intercepted and engaged a group identified as “Khwarij” — a term the government uses for members of the Pakistani Taliban.

A search operation is ongoing to locate and neutralize any remaining insurgents in the area.

Officials reiterated Pakistan’s concerns over militant activities along the frontier, often accusing Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government of ignoring the presence of such groups. Kabul has repeatedly denied these claims.

The military further alleged that the militants killed in the operation had backing from India, though no evidence was provided to support the accusation. New Delhi has yet to respond.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their swift and decisive action, calling it a “successful operation” that reinforced Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Balochistan government has suspended mobile internet services across the province until August 31, citing security concerns ahead of the August 14 Independence Day celebrations. Authorities say insurgents have, in past years, targeted vendors selling national flags in the lead-up to the holiday.
